She recalls how she loved nothing more than going to the local markets and enjoying the culture of the island. Sure, Malta may have changed a little since then, but if Elizabeth II endorsed it, we should at least give it a chance.

Visit Malta’s Capital – Valletta
One of the first items on your Malta to-do list is undoubtedly to go to the island’s capital of Valletta. Not many cities can call themselves a UNESCO World Heritage site. Many films and shows have been filmed in this historic city.
Make sure to check out the Upper Barrakka Gardens during your time here. It provides some truly amazing views of the city’s Grand Harbour. Also, St. John’s Co-Cathedral is a must-see.
Take a Stroll in Mdina
Known as the “Silent City,” and for a good reason, Mdina is one of the ancient cities of Malta, and has had a continuous population for thousands of years.
What makes the small district so special is the fact that it is located within the city walls. Heck, it’s even surrounded by a moat! Inside, there are plenty of cool sites, including the Mdina Cathedral and the picturesque Bastion Square.
Dive Into the Blue Lagoon
A stay in Malta is incomplete without a day trip to the Blue Lagoon, which can be found between the Maltese islands of Cominotto and Comino.

With a white seabed and turquoise waters that provide infinite Instagram moments, this is a popular destination for divers and snorkelers alike.
Go to Gozo for the Day
A popular thing to do during a stay in Malta is to visit the neighboring smaller island of Gozo.
This quieter part of the country is just a short ferry ride away and is definitely worth a few hours to see its many historical sites. These include the Ggantija Temples and the stunning Azure Window – an ancient, natural archway.
Also, make sure to get some trademark Gozo pizza, which usually comes in a variety of toppings, including chicken!
