Smells
Avoid packing snack items with a string smell like a tuna sandwich or anything that’s garlicky, vinegary, hot, or pungent. Even if such foods are in your backpack or purse for the whole flight, their strong smell can carry easily and can really bother the other passengers. You wouldn’t want to spend a few hours in a metal tube while smelling someone else’s tuna, would you? Show the consideration you’d like to be treated with. Similarly, you might feel like you need to carry your favorite perfume in your carry-on bag on a long flight as you need to constantly smell good, but its scent can be bothersome to the other passengers. Wait until you arrive at your destination.
Liquids
This one is a pretty know instruction but it’s good to be reminded of it than having to toss away your body lotion at the gate. Liquids over 3.4 ounces or 100ml should also be a strict no-no in your carry-on luggage. Most international flights these days have pretty strict liquid restrictions these days. So, you would be better off without those oversized shampoos in your carry-on.
Anything Sharp
Sharp objects are prohibited in carry-on luggage universally simply because they can easily be used as a weapon by anyone. While we rarely pack items like a knife, a box cutter, or a big scissors in our carry-on, some sharp small items can still make their way in if we aren’t careful, like nail scissors or nail files. Pack everything sharp in your checked luggage instead.
Sports Gear
Sporting equipment like ski poles, baseball bats, hockey sticks, pool cues, or golf clubs aren’t allowed on the plane. Again because these items can be used as a weapon. You can rent these sports equipment at your destination. If you’re traveling to a sporting event and specifically need your own gear, contact the airline to ask about their policy on the matter.
Meat or Produce
Are you planning on packing some meats, fruits, or vegetables in your carry-on luggage? That’s not a smart idea as most countries disallow you from carrying meats, fruit, vegetables, plants, and other agricultural products and are likely to be confiscated on arrival if carried.
