We have actually embarked on a pretty neat road trip while traveling around England. We did it in just one week. And we’ve called it the L.Y.M. triangle – standing for London, York, Manchester. Let’s go!

Days 1, 2 and 3 – London
This is our starting point because you’ll probably land in or around London. You can easily rent a car from most of the surrounding airports.
From there, drive to your pre-booked accommodation. Obviously, you’re going to need to see all of the classics – such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the Globe Theater, and the West End, just to name a few.
We recommend maybe taking the train to London from wherever you’re staying. Driving into the center can be pricey – including congestion charges.
Days 4 and 5 – York
After your time in London, you’ll be driving up to the beautiful medieval city of York. Typically, the M1 will take you up to this northern city. It’s a 200-miler, so it will be the biggest challenge of your road trip.
You can afford to stop off at some gas stations for refreshments and bathroom breaks. Just make sure to leave London early. You’ll arrive at your hostel of choice and be able to enjoy the many exciting things that this little walled city has to offer.

Circumvent the entire city in just an hour by walking along its city walls. Make sure to visit the Shambles, a cobblestoned, wobbly street that directly inspired Diagon Alley from the “Harry Potter” novels. And you can’t miss an authentic English tea at Betty’s Tea Room.
Days 6 and 7 – Manchester
The trip from York to Manchester is much simpler – usually taking about 1.5 hours. Simply drive down the M62 and then stop at the parking lot closest to your chosen accommodation.
From here, you should go to either a Manchester United or Manchester City soccer match. But that’s not all, Manchester has a bustling nightlife, full of cool bars and clubs – most notably in the city center’s renowned Printworks.
Also, Manchester has a famous Indian food district known as the Curry Mile – so you better pay it a visit before your departure!
Back to the Airport
All that’s left is to hop onto the M6 for your trip back to London for your return flight. It’s another 200 miles, but you’ve done that already – so the second time will be a piece of cake. And there you have it – the L.Y.M. Triangle is complete. Spread the word!
