Oktoberfest
Most people might not need an introduction to this one but we are going to introduce it anyway. Oktoberfest is one of the most important German festivals. The tradition began with the Royal Wedding that took place in October of the year 1810. King Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen and, of course, the whole country celebrated with them. Today, it’s a nationwide celebration full of traditional food and beer.
The Berlin Film Festival
The Berlin Film Festival is held every year in February and celebrates cinema of all genres, from horror to romance. Experimental films can also be found here, though watch them at your own risk as they are often so unusual that many viewers can’t quite stomach them.
Karneval
You can think of this festival as the German spin on the Carnival of Venice. Karneval, also held in February (like the Berlin Film Festival mentioned above) in Germany, is a colorful celebration where people are seen wearing costumes and bold, flashy masks. This is the season of masquerade balls and it’s a celebration full of art and color.
Long Night of Museums
The Long Night of Museums is the perfect event for those who prefer to unwind with some art. This festival features over 150 participating museums, each of which offers a package designed to suit your art-loving creative needs.
Rhein in Flammen
Rhein in Flammen is a fireworks display celebration that you definitely shouldn’t miss. The fireworks light up inside castles and then shoot across the sky, the green landscapes, and the Rhein River. In May and September, you can witness this majestic show from a decorated Rhine boat.
