We have cherry-picked the best cities across Europe that offer plenty to do for tourists and soccer fans alike.
London
In many ways, London is the “Mecca” of soccer. When you consider how many huge clubs play in England’s capital, it’s no surprise that this is at the top of our list. Wherever you are in the city, you are probably close to a football stadium.
You could watch Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Fulham, Crystal Palace (the list goes on) and still have time to catch various sites such as Big Ben, the Globe Theater and the Houses of Parliament.
Also, the England national soccer team plays their home games at Wembley – another famous London stadium.
Rome
Here’s a city where the two major soccer clubs share the same stadium. The Stadio Olimpico is the home of both AS Roma and SS Lazio.
But if you don’t fancy watching them play, then you can always check out the daddy of all stadiums – the Colosseum! Italy’s capital has it all, whether you like soccer or not!
Madrid
Outside of London, Madrid might be the European city with the most football clubs playing at the highest level.
Of course, most purists will want to turn up to the Santiago Bernabeu to watch Real Madrid’s Galacticos play some of the best soccer around. But you can also watch Atletico Madrid play, who are also a top Spanish outfit.
And if you’re really strapped for cash, then maybe consider going to watch Getafe, who certainly have cheaper tickets.
Manchester
Although Manchester United is historically the bigger team, it’s their neighbors Manchester City who have been the dominant superpower in soccer over the last decade or so.
Going to Old Trafford or the Etihad is an experience in and of itself. But it helps that Manchester might have the best nightlife in all of Europe.
Milan
Although AC Milan and Internazionale have seen better days, they will always be considered two of Europe’s soccer powerhouses.
And when you consider the city they are located in, it’s a beautiful place to visit even when it’s not so fun being a fan of either club.
What makes Milan so appealing for tourists and soccer fans is that Inter and AC both play in the same stadium – the San Siro, which is widely regarded to be one of the best stadiums in the continent.
Glasgow
It might not be as tourist-friendly as Edinburgh, but Glasgow has one of the fiercest derbies in all of soccer – the Old Firm Derby. Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers throw no punches whenever they play each other.
