Skincare Is Essential
The key to having a no-makeup makeup look that you’ll love is to start off with a solid skincare routine.
Keeping your skin in good condition will have you glowing from within, and that will give you the confidence to wear less makeup in public.
Always Wear Sunscreen
Many makeup looks start off with primer to ready the skin and have something for the makeup to stick to. But sunscreen can achieve this, and it’s good for you. One thing to be aware of is that sunscreen can cause what’s called ‘white cast,’ meaning that if you are pictured with flash photography, your face will look ghostly white. Still, that can easily be checked product-by-product and avoided.
Opt for Concealer Instead of Foundation
To achieve a good no-makeup makeup look, you’ll have to forgo the foundation. Even when applied in small amounts, it doesn’t look natural. Instead, strategically place concealer on problem areas, and buff that out.
No More Powders
Well, kind of. It’s perfectly fine to use translucent setting powder, but when it comes to pigmented products (like blush, bronzer, and highlight), opt for creams or liquids. The reason is that liquid and cream products melt into the skin more, giving a more natural finish.
Powder, on the other hand, just sits on top of the skin and makes it look like you’re wearing makeup.
Don’t Overdo the Eyes
Just a little mascara and carefully added eyeliner can make you look awake and alert, without giving away that you’re wearing makeup. The trick is to not overdo it. If you want to use eyeshadow, opt for a softer, neutral shade that is just darker than your skin color. No smoky eyes here, just light and fresh eyes. An added tip is to add white eyeliner to your waterline and the inner corners of your eyes. This will give a brighter appearance and make your eyes look more open.
Embrace Your Face
As said, the point of makeup is to enhance what you’ve already got. There’s nothing wrong with a glam look now and then, but it’s possible to look and feel naturally beautiful with minimal product on your face.
