New Paint
This one sounds obvious, but a new lick of paint can transform an old cupboard, set of drawers, or coffee table. The color options are endless, and you won’t need to go out and buy all new pieces of furniture.
Repainting a few furniture items in the same room will already give the whole space a new look and feel. Plus, painting is fun! You can even enlist your kids to help out, and boy will this be one chore they won’t mind doing.
Old Desk into Nightstand
Most desks include a set of drawers, some even two. If you’re no longer using the desk for its intended purpose, you can saw off the excess wood and leave only the set of drawers standing on the remaining legs. From there, reattach the remaining legs (or add new ones), and boom! You’ve got yourself a perfectly good nightstand. You can even repaint it for a truly new-looking item.
Ladder-Bookcase
This idea will really make you look like a seasoned DIY homemaker. Sand the ladder down so that it’s smooth and free of splinters, and then measure out the space between the rungs for the shelves. Screw in some sturdy wooden planks as shelves, and give everything a sharp paint makeover. Importantly, add brackets to your ladder shelf so that it can handle the weight of whatever you put on it.
Picture Frame Key Rack
Chances are, you have an old picture frame hanging around (no pun intended, but if the shoe fits…). You can repurpose this into a key rack by simply adding on some hooks to the bottom. You can even still use it as a picture frame, as the inside doesn’t need to be affected in this transformation.
Insert a cute shot of your family into the frame, and voila – you’ve got a personalized cute key rack. Fun and practical!
Time to Get Creative
Upcycling furniture is super fun and an excellent way to express creativity. Plus, you end up with like-new pieces that you can use for years to come. It’s a win-win, so what are you waiting for?
