An Impressive Resume
Vera was a talented figure skater who pursued the sport professionally for a while. She says a lot of inspiration for her designs still comes from figure skating. She worked as a senior fashion editor at Vogue for 15 years (no big deal), and then became a design director for art accessories at Ralph Lauren.
Wang soon opened a luxurious bridal boutique with her now signature bridal collection. She went on to design lingerie, home products, and jewelry. And boy, was this the start of something good.
Making a Name for Herself
It was during the 1994 Olympics that Wang received international acclaim for a gorgeous hand-beaded ensemble she designed for figure skater, Nancy Kerrigan. The recognition helped her launch a beautiful line of elegant evening wear along with Vera Wang’s Made to Order. Ah, to own your own Vera Wang apparel. Maybe one day.
Accolades and High-Profile Clients
Wearing Vera Wang is a red-carpet phenomenon in its own right! Vera Wang fashion makes regular appearances at film premieres and award ceremonies. Actors Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, and Meg Ryan are some of Vera’s high-profile clients.
Wang has won numerous accolades such as the Chinese American Planning Council’s Honoree of the Year Award and the Girl Scout Council’s Woman of Distinction Award. She was also selected Womenswear Designer of the Year in 2005 by the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). It’s safe to say that Wang’s presence won’t be absent from the red carpet anytime soon.
