It’s not just the Queen who could have the very best things in life. Her sister, the gracious Countess of Snowdon, Princess Margaret, and Antony Armstrong-Jones, got married all the way back in 1960. They had their beautiful honeymoon on the paradisiacal Caribbean Island of Mustique, which you would come to expect from people of their class.
The couple stayed at the private estate of a friend of Armstrong-Jones, where they could enjoy some privacy and relaxation away from the media attention that followed their high-profile wedding. Above, we see the royal couple on their way to their six-week honeymoon bliss, waving goodbye above the Royal Yacht Britannia.
Marylin Monroe and Joe DiMaggio
Ravishing actress Marilyn Monroe and heartthrob baseball player Joe DiMaggio jetted off to Japan for their honeymoon in 1954, and understandably, they were the talk of the town. The glamorous couple was welcomed with open arms and showered with gifts, and they took full advantage of their time in the land of the rising sun.
They visited Tokyo, Kyoto, and Hiroshima. Above, we can see the young couple visiting some beached sailboats on the coast. Unfortunately, not even an exotic trip to Japan was enough to keep these two together, as they divorced only a year later. Imagine that! A year!
Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman
Academy-award-winning actress Jane Wyman married Ronald Reagan (back in the days when he was an actor and long before he even considered running for President) all the way back in 1940. What better way was there to start their new life together than with a honeymoon in sunny Palm Springs, California?
The couple indulged in the city's finest dining, lounged by the pool, and even played some ping pong, as seen above. They stayed at the luxurious El Mirador Hotel — the epitome of Hollywood glamour. They also took a hot air balloon ride above the desert. We think that makes up a pretty splendid honeymoon.
Cary Grant and Virginia Cherrill
Hollywood actors Cary Grant and Virginia Cherrill got married at the Registry Office in England in 1934 and were quite the honeymooners. On their post-wedding getaway, they went on a month-long romantic trip that ended in Acapulco. Always the gentleman, Cary went out of his way to make Virginia feel like a princess at every turn.
The lovebirds were caught on camera staring lovingly at each other as they arrived in New York — the starting point for their honeymoon, which ended in Mexico. Despite the initial romance, Grant and Cherrill only lasted a year. She would be the first of five women that Grant would end up marrying.
The Duke and Duchess of York
Feast your eyes on the beautiful image of The Duke and Duchess of York taking a romantic stroll through the woods during their honeymoon in 1923. During that wonderful getaway, they spent time in both Polesden Lacey and Scotland. Prince Albert, later known as King George VI, married Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, who would later be known around the world as The Queen Mother.
Fun fact - George was actually turned down by Elizabeth when he first proposed to her in 1921. But the young lady eventually agreed to marry him a couple of years later. They tied the knot in Westminster Abbey when the bride laid her bouquet at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.
