One fine example is located in North Yorkshire. It might be out of the way a little, but Fountains Abbey is definitely worth a few hours of your time.
What Is Fountains Abbey?
One of the best preserved Cistercian monasteries in all of England, Fountains Abbey is a marvelous set of ruins that has gradually evolved into a beautiful park.

Originally founded in 1132, this monastery home ran for more than four centuries. But then Henry VIII came along and decided to terminate operations. Thankfully though, he let the actual abbey stand and it has remained there until the present day.
Since then, Fountains Abbey has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, and rightfully so.
What Can You Do There?
For the most part, Fountains Abbey is a perfect opportunity to marvel at the enchanting Gothic ruins and enjoy the surrounding nature. With a tour guide, you can learn about the chapter house and the cells of the monks that once inhabited them.
Studley Royal Park is the backdrop of Fountains Abbey and boasts many beautiful woodlands, walking trails, water gardens, and stunning vantage points.
Anne Boleyn’s Seat
One part of the park to get the best views is on a natural platform known as Anne Boleyn’s Seat. It is given this name because up until 1768, there was a decapitated statute of Henry VIII’s ex-wife. The statue has since been returned to its original position.
