Monkeys (Costa Rica, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia)
The most obvious example of an animal who is notorious for stealing is the monkey. They will typically sniff around for food. But they may also try to snatch at your hats and sunglasses if you leave them unattended.
Raccoons (USA, Canada)
Other than bears, Raccoons are known in North America as typical garbage rummagers. Many have caught them red-pawed in the middle of the night scavaging around their garage and have had no choice but to chase them off with a broom. But they can also be pests on vacation.

Seagulls (Coastal Regions Worldwide)
Basically, anywhere where there is wind and beaches, there are probably seagulls waiting to swoop in and take your sandwich out of your hands. Trust us, it happened to us.
Squirrels (Asia, Europe, North America)
We often think of squirrels as being peaceful animals that simply want to bury some nuts. But depending on what urban areas you might be traveling in, these little critters have been known to take food items when they are close enough.

Street Dogs (Thailand, India, Africa)
If you are vacationing in an area where there are many stray dogs in the vicinity, and you have left your food unattended, then there’s a good chance that a dog will be attracted to the aromas and seize the opportunity.
Magpies (Asia, Australia, Europe, North America)
These birds seem to gravitate toward shiny objects. So, if you have any jewelry on full display or have left your sunglasses out by the pool, then they might end up high in the sky.
