This one landlord had a tenant who would refuse to pay their rent. They kept this up for months, even when eviction notices were sent to them. During the court meetings, they convinced the judge to let them stay at the house and would come up with relentless excuses for not paying.
They kept claiming that they should not pay because the neighbors were too loud and because one of them had a cat they were allergic to. Since these were completely out of the landlord’s hands, he created strict guidelines and finally managed to kick him out for good.
Tenant Says No to Shower Curtains
This one landlord had to lose their downstairs tenant as the one upstairs refused to use a shower curtain. Consequently, the tenant flooded their bathroom and caused a water leak in the apartment directly below.
The landlord was certainly flooded with problems. Not only did he lose the tenant downstairs, but he also had to pay for damages from his own pockets since the insurance only covered plumbing issues like burst pipes.
“Just Be More Professional”
One landlady was asked to be more professional by her tenants after bringing her child to "work"! This landlady had asked her tenants to leave the unit as they completely disregarded the rules about Lease Violation Notices and started showing the unit to other tenants.
Her children accompanied her to these showings, following which she was called unprofessional by the same tenants who wear breaking the rules. Hence the landlady sent them a final 5-day eviction notice, accompanied by a call to their mother! And, although it sounds ridiculous, it worked, and they corrected their ways!
3 Cats and 1 Unkempt Apartment
This one landlady had rented her apartment to 2 young ladies, among whom one had gotten married and left. The other woman lived in the apartment with her 3 cats for 3 months on half the rent, until one day she suddenly announced that she was leaving.
Once her apartment was vacated, the landlady and her mother visited it, only to find a cat-stained mattress and an uncleared litter box, all of which the landlady had to get cleaned or thrown out. This tenant later dared to ask her landlady for her deposit back. Needless to say, the landlady got her piece of satisfaction by refusing! Talk about a catfight.
Hippies and Radiation
After living in the house for four days, a family of hippies announced that they were leaving and demanded that their deposit be refunded. Their reason for leaving all of a sudden? Radiation. They claimed that they had to rush their daughter to the emergency room (ER) due to the radiation that was being emitted by a cell tower nearby.
When the landlord checked on the house, though, they found it in a complete mess. From black marks on the surfaces to torn furniture soaked with the smell of urine and feces, they checked all the boxes of bad tenants. The landlord, of course, unapologetically refused to refund their deposit.
Rent Money? More Like Tattoo Money
Yes, you read that right. This poor landlady, who had rented out several duplexes, had a tenant who was always late on rent. Several times the landlady reached out to the tenant regarding the dues, and she heard the same reason repeatedly. The tenant claimed that she was having a really hard time with money.
The landlady sympathized with her and allowed the late payments to go on. But one day, she visited the tenant and saw that she had an entirely new tattoo sleeve on her. If you don't happen to not know, tattoos, especially full sleeves are very expensive. Long story short- the eviction process was started immediately.
Cement Down the Drain
This landlord's tenants almost burnt their house down as if straight out of a horror movie! The tenants were trying to make hemp oil when things went south, and the house caught on fire, following which the landlord asked them to leave, and they refused.
And, if you think this was an accident that was blown out of proportion, hear this: months after they were evicted, they came back for revenge. All the hard work the landlord had put into renovations went down the drain along with the cement they poured down it. We are sure that cemented their bad reputation!
Call SPCA!
Here is a short story with a happy ending. On an occasion, when a landlord visited their tenant's house, they discovered that the tenant had been raising a dog and her puppies in the bathroom. Unfortunately, though, the tenant had not been taking the best care of them.
Their litter bins remained uncleared, and it was evident that the owner was neglecting them. However, on a brighter note, the tenant got evicted, and SPCA was called for the dogs! All's well that ends well.
An Electrical Mess
You would think having electricians as your tenants in your family home would work in your favor for improvements and minor repairs around the house. But, that is not always the case. One day when the landlord's electric bill arrives, they realize that it is nearly double what they pay!
Upon inspecting the power company, they learned that the electrician tenant had rewired the electric connections. The reason they did that? Of course, draw more current to their apartment from the electric meter. They had an eviction letter in their name the following morning. Lights out!
Chickens in Kitchen Cabinets?
It's unbelievable what some tenants do to their rented houses. For instance, this tenant thought it would be genius to raise some pet chickens in his apartment.
Where did he keep them so they would not run around and make a mess? The kitchen cabinets. He took out the cabinet doors and put chicken wire in their place to form makeshift cages. This is where he kept all his chickens; as you can imagine, the landlord was unhappy. The eviction notice was thus put into process.
Mushroom Walls???
Have you ever seen mushrooms grow on the walls of an apartment? Well, this landlord sure has! The tenant that this landlord had rented to, decided to cover the entire unit in, as bizarre as it sounds, plastic wrap.
He then turned up the humidity of the house so high that mold formed on the walls. You could even spot a few mushrooms on the walls as well! As you can imagine, he was evicted, and the good-humored landlord added a "mold clause" to the leasing contract!
Dirty Carpet Business
Sure, we'd all like to go with the flow, but this tenant was ridiculous! It turned out that she was running an entire carpet washing company out of her rented apartment. To the landlord's dismay, she thought it would be okay to do so since the water was included in the rent.
Needless to say, when the landlord received a huge water bill and saw that she had ruined the entire laminate flooring while drying the carpets over it, he evicted her.
An Oily Mess
In another episode of tenants doing the most to make their landlords' lives harder, we have a tenant who repaired his three motorbikes inside the house. Despite having a completely secure garage attached to their rental, this tenant decided repairing them inside would be a better idea.
As you can imagine, there were blotches of oil everywhere. Everything was ruined with spills of oil or dirty handprints from the beautiful carpet to the stairwell and walls. On top of that, the tenant left the fuel tank in the kitchen, which was leaking fuel. It was a miracle that the entire house did not blow up, and the landlord evicted him.
Terrorizing the Neighbors Upstairs
"Rent your apartment out," they said. "It would be fun," they said. Unfortunately, this landlord was not having fun.
The tenants who lived in their apartment were determined to get on the nerves of their upstairs neighbors. To do that, they kept shutting off the power of the unit that was directly above them. Why they did that, no one knows. But, one thing that is for sure - they got rightfully evicted.
Hoarding Nightmares
To this landlord's dismay, one fine day, when he decided to visit his tenants, he found the worst case of hoarding!
Their bathroom had been filled with random furniture, showpieces, and paintings to the doors. We get having collections of artifacts, but this was on a new level. The doors couldn't even open fully! But fortunately, the landlord was able to...close the door on the tenants soon enough.
Generating Electricity Through Water
One day, this landlord received a call from his tenant asking him if he could rewire the powerbox to sell the electricity he was not using back to the electric company.
He said he was generating electricity through water and wanted to sell all the leftover electricity. He thought it was cheaper to generate it from water because the water in his apartment was free! He didn't know that water only appeared to be free because the landlord was paying the water bills. Understandably for costing the landlord a fortune, the tenant was evicted.
Turtle Habitat in the Basement
As you can guess from the title itself when the landlord walked into his tenant's basement, he saw an entire turtle habitat there. The tenants had started a turtle breeding business right in the basements.
And, to make the place more turtle-friendly, they had drowned the floor with 6 or so inches of water. Don't know why they thought it would be alright to do so, but at least the landlord got the upper hand. They were evicted the very next day without any notice. Seems like turtles and tenants don't mix!
Playing the Victim
When this landlord found out that his tenants were allowing a friend to live at the apartment without adding him to the lease, he asked the freeloader to vacate the apartment. The landlord clarified that the only other option he had was to start paying rent.
This was led by numerous excuses from the freeloader, among which he claimed that he shouldn't have to pay as it wasn't actually his apartment and that he was just living there. He also posted an entire sob story on Facebook! Fortunately, the landlord took none of his excuses and still evicted him.
"Weightlifting" on Toilets
A tenant broke the flat's toilet several times. The bowl kept breaking off each month almost. The landlord had spent more money fixing the toilet than the rent they earned from the tenant. The landlord evicted them after 6 months of them constantly breaking the toilet.
The tenants only gave them an excuse that their three-year-old child kept sitting on it, and the bowl kept breaking. The landlord comically says they must have been weightlifting on the toilet because they were heavier than a three-year-old child and the toilet never broke when they sat on it.
Makeshift Clothesline
In need of a space to hang his clothes, this tenant thought that it would be a great idea to use the fire sprinkler as a makeshift endpoint of a line for his clothes. As you can guess, the sprinkler broke under the pressure of heavy clothes, and both the landlord and other tenants had to pay.
All the floors below the unit had water leaking to them, and the cost of repairs was no joke either. The guy received his eviction notice from the landlord soon afterward.
From the Windows to the Walls
Imagine the shock that this tenant experienced when he walked into the apartment he had rented, only to see everything broken. You would think there was a tornado in this house as everything inside was broken.
From every window being cracked to every wall having holes in them as though someone had punched those through them. The house was in terrible shape; worst of all, the tenants were nowhere to be found. As a last resort, the landlord had to call the police and track them down for reimbursements. Yikes!
Unwanted Picasso
When this landlord returned to his house after it had been rented out, they thought they had entered the wrong house.
The previous tenants who occupied the house had done a lot of remodeling work on the house and gotten paint everywhere. They overstepped their boundary, and the landlord was not happy. He took this matter to the authorities and later fined the tenants for major unauthorized renovations.
Fire Extinguisher Down the Hallway
Imagine renting your apartment to nice-looking first-year college students only to fall victim to their shenanigans because that is exactly what happened to this landlord! The landlord reported that his freshman tenant had rolled across the hallway on an office chair and sprayed a big fire extinguisher everywhere as he did so.
As you can imagine, the cost of cleaning up was not a fun price to pay for the landlord, but at least he evicted the tenant.
Rain storms and Open Windows
Another irresponsible tenant left all the windows open during a rain storm and did not clean up the water that had gotten in. When the landlord arrived, he was beyond shocked to see that every window and even part of the wooden floor got rotten and accumulated black mold.
To put the cherry on top, the tenant even asked to have their security deposit returned when they were asked to leave. The landlord was not having any of that, though, and he did not return their deposit.
Stealing Light Bulbs
One tenant would steal lightbulbs each time a light bulb went out in his apartment. He did this by climbing an office chair in the hallway. This was very bizarre to the landlord, because he got caught once or twice and was informed that changing lightbulbs does not cost extra, yet he continued stealing from the hallway.
Until one day, he went overboard and stole a lightbulb from another tenant's flat. He got caught only because he fell and hurt himself by breaking the chair he was on. Perhaps that shed a light on why it's not a good idea to steal things!
Ash-Thma
This one tenant thought it would be a great idea to put an empty pan on their lit stove and get some other stuff done while it was heating up.
As you can imagine, the tenant forgot about it until the kitchen was set on fire and almost burned the entire house. Later, when the landlord rightfully asked for reimbursements, they then decided to play the victim. They claimed that the smoke and ashes had caused their asthma to aggravate, which is why they should not have to pay...
Falling Through the Roof
When this tenant and his friends climbed through their kitchen window to go to the roof, they did not realize that they would get into trouble. The landlord had previously mentioned to the tenant that the roof outside had not been properly built yet.
However, the tenant did not heed his words and still snuck there with his friends to get some fresh air. Consequently, one of the tenant's friends fell through the roof, and although he sustained no injuries, we're pretty sure the landlord's anger was through the roof!
Naked Walls
The only thing that should be naked in the bathroom is the person taking a shower. A tenant removed all the tiles in his bathroom. He took off every tile from the ceiling to the floor to the walls. He was not caught until a house inspection was done. He was asked why he had left the bathroom completely bare.
He replied, saying he thought the tiles were ugly, so he took his time to gradually remove all of them. The landlord redid the bathroom, which was costly, and then kicked the tenant out.
Icy Business
These new landlords got the lesson of their life when they discovered that their tenants were running illegal water and ice business. Since the landlords were new to owning the rental, they were quite taken aback by this unexpected turn of events.
However, after much confusion about what to do, the answer was clear when they learned that the previous rental owner had to pay fines. Safe to say that the landlord-tenant relationship was...icy...after that.
Homemade Inflatable Jacuzzi
Getting calls regarding the flooding of several apartments surely came off as a shock to this landlord. As it turns out, their tenant had inflated an inflatable pool and started using that as an in-home jacuzzi. But, just like most dreams, the homemade Jacuzzi-pool burst.
Several units below experienced a leakage, and the tenant's apartment was completely flooded too. The landlord did not hold back when showing him the way out.
Pot on the Stove
The tenant left a pot on the stove before they left their flat and this eventually, to no one's surprise, caused drastic smoke damage. Fortunately, a tenant in another flat was home and called in the fire department, which broke in and took care of the fire.
Later on, the tenant asked if the landlord's insurance would cover the cost of the damages. The tenant had tried to stop the eviction by saying the accident was from an electrical fire. However, the housing authority presented the fire report, and the tenant was immediately evacuated...pot in hand.
Puppy Hoarding
Sounds cute, right? Well, not when there are 40 of them to destroy all the floors and furniture. But that is exactly what happened to this landlord. One day, when they had gone to check up on their tenant at their family cottage, they were welcomed by shock.
Not only had the tenant kept his dog there, but there were also 40 puppies. The dogs and puppies had completely ruined their furnishings, thus costing a fortune to have fixed. The landlord, although quite a lover of dogs, had the tenant evicted for going against the rental policies.
Humidify the apartment
You would think having mold and mushrooms growing on the walls would make anyone realize that their house was too humid, but not his lad. He thought that he could run the shower non-stop to keep his house humid since his water was included in the rent.
But, quickly enough, the house got so humid that mold and mushrooms were all over the walls. The nightmare did not stop there, though. Since he used so much water, not realizing that the landlord had to pay for it, the bill rose by $500. And this is the story of how the tenant got kicked out.
Painter
A tenant had stubbornly declined to leave the flat, and since he did not leave, he was eventually fired from his job. He had stopped paying rent at some point, so the landlord asked his assistant to go over and see what had happened to the tenant.
The assistant then discovered that the tenant had painted almost every single wall when it was strictly prohibited to do so - the walls were colored with red, hot pink, blue, yellow, sky blue, and baby pink. Turns out that at the end of the rainbow is an eviction notice.
Vandalizing a Car
This landlord fell into the predicament of his life when he found out that the tenant he had rented his house to had vandalized a car.
This came about to be when someone had parked in the tenant's assigned parking spot. What makes the situation hilarious, though, is that the tenant did not even own a car in the first place! Hence, it did not take long for him to receive an eviction letter from the landlord.
Chicken Lady
What's with tenants hoarding animals, you ask? We have the same question. This landlady discovered that her tenant was keeping 20 chickens as pets! Although the chickens themselves were well taken care of, the house was a mess.
There was not even an inch that was not covered by feathers. Plus, the noise these chickens created disturbed the neighbors of the nearby units. And not to mention, that there was a no-pet policy in the building. Thus, the chicken lady had to be evicted for violating the rules.
Aerosol Can
The tenant had left a can of aerosol on top of the stove when they had been cooking. Of course, pressure had eventually built up inside the can of aerosol because of the heat and had exploded, causing a fire.
Afterward, the tenant asked the landlady if the insurance company could take care of the damages caused by the fire. However, the explosion had caused so much property damage that the landlady had no choice but to evacuate the tenant. Don't leave cans on your stovetop people!
Beach-Themed Party
A freshman who had been renting a house near his university decided to have a flat warming party with some of his friends. Everything would have been fine if it were not for the party being beach-themed!
To the landlord's dismay, it was covered in a few inches of sand when he walked into the apartment. The carpets and sofas were coated with a layer of sand crunched with the slightest movement. The landlord got his sweet revenge for giving him a hefty cleaning bill by evicting him, though. Life's a beach!
Fire to the Man-Cave
A couple had lived in this one flat, and they had happened to have gotten into a nasty argument one day. This small disagreement had escalated a bit too far. The unhappy wife had then happened to have gotten a bit reckless and had set fire to her husband's 'man-cave' - which was the entire living room.
Needless to say, the property damage was big enough to get them both evicted by the landlord, which had just hoped they would get divorced soon so another landlord would not have to face the same incident.
$50 Rent Payment Refusal
This landlord had rented his house to a woman under section 8. Due to this, section 8 covered $1450 of the $1500 she had to pay.
The amount that she had to pay was $50, and yet she kept stalling. She did not pay her rent for months and completely refused to do so. Of course, the rent was important to the landlord, so he ended up evading her from his property.
Growing Numbers
This landlady did not know what she was signing up for when she rented her 3-bedroom house to a family of 4. Eventually, other relatives started moving in, and their daughter had children, which grew their members up to 11!
This quickly became an issue as they had multiple cars and always parked them on the lawn. Not to mention they always blasted music which bothered the neighbors. And worst of all, they did not clear out their trash bins and did not pay their rent. Understandably, the landlady evicted all 11 of them without thinking twice.
Peeping Tom's
The landlady had let a couple move into one of the houses she owned. Even though they were just normal at first, the landlady had gradually begun to notice how the couple had begun to make holes in their blinds so they could look at the people walking by and anyone near the front porch.
The landlady had especially found this very strange, considering this defeated the complete purpose of the binds. The landlady had eventually evicted them as they were making bystanders uncomfortable!
Scatterbrain
This one tenant had always left his key in accidentally whenever he left the apartment complex. However, when he returned home, he would make no effort in actually searching for his key and immediately go to the landlord to claim that he had lost his key and needed an immediate replacement.
Each time, the landlord had to point out that he had left his key in the front door's lock. The incident repeatedly happened to the point that the landlord had no choice but to ...unlock... the tenant from his contract.
Fire Inspection Dodges
During a yearly fire inspection that the landlord conducts, one of his tenants refused to comply. Despite knowing that these inspections were mandatory, she kept making excuses about being sick and dodging them.
A few months later, when she went out on vacation, the landlord posted a 24-hour notice and entered the house. What he saw was a nightmare. Boxes stacked as high as the ceiling, cobwebs all over them, mold on the walls, and dishes all over the sink. It did not take him long to decide on her eviction. "You're fired!"
Outdoors Kitchen Island
The tenants that this landlord had were one of a kind. They removed the kitchen island from inside the house and brought it outdoors. Why? Because they needed an outdoor serving table beside the pool!
They could have purchased a table and set it outside, which would have required a quarter of the labor, but nope! They went the extra mile to damage the property, after which the landlord evicted them.
One Man’s Trash Is Another Man’s Treasure
Following the eviction of a woman, when the landlord went to the house to check out the condition it had been left in, he was surprised to find the closets still full. From children's to adults' clothes, jewelry, shoes, bags, food, CDs and bootleg DVDs, mail, headphones, and even credit cards, IDs, and some money- the previous tenants had left everything there.
So, the landlord called the tenant and asked what she wanted them to do with it all, to which she asked them to throw it all away. As he and people from the cleaning company were clearing things out, a few of the workers decided to take the nice things that they wanted. It was indeed a win-win situation as the tenant got rid of the things they didn't want, and the landlord did not have to trash everything.
Wannabe Artist
A landlord had rented out his holiday house through an agency, and a wannabe artist had always rented the home for about 16 months over three years. He had always left a mess behind and always been a nuisance to the agency.
The final nail in the coffin was when he decided to paint a mural on the living room walls. The painter was then banned. The landlord, however, had to get involved in evicting him as the painter was making a ruckus and demanding the agency pay him for the artwork he had done. The landlord had to call the police to escort him out.
Never-Ending Complaints
This one landlord had a tenant who would refuse to pay their rent. They kept this up for months, even when eviction notices were sent to them. During the court meetings, they convinced the judge to let them stay at the house and would come up with relentless excuses for not paying.
They kept claiming that they should not pay because the neighbors were too loud and because one of them had a cat they were allergic to. Since these were completely out of the landlord's hands, he created strict guidelines and finally managed to kick him out for good.
My Little “Hidden” Pony
A tenant had complained to her landlord about how the house had a sudden water leak. The landlord had come to check to find how the tap built in at the back of the house had been completely detached and there was water exuding everywhere. The landlord had gotten to turn off the water pipe and while fixing the tap, he heard the garden shed trembling.
Lo and behold, there was a pony hidden inside the garden shed! Not exactly the pet you'd expect...
Fleeing the State
A landlord had rented out a three-story house with a single unattached garage. A while after, the landlord finds out from the sheriff's department that the tenants have fled the state. After putting the eviction notice, the tenants call him up to put all their items in storage.
When the landlord arrived at the house, the place had been completely ruined, The interior walls were knocked down. The copper wiring was pulled out of the walls to be sold. The bathroom sink was taken out to be sold. Several extension cords were running up the house's breaker room. The bed had only a mattress and no frame or sheets. Yikes...not exactly home-y.
Rattle Can Spray
A tenant thought it would be a great idea to not only bring his entire motorcycle inside the apartment complex but also paint the motorcycle using a rattle can.
As one could imagine, there were tiny black dots almost everywhere. This sort of paint is incredibly hard to take off so the dots getting on almost all the surfaces did not help. The carpet was especially the worst of it. The tenant got evicted immediately after seeing his flat.
Old KFC
The tenants had almost immediately stopped paying rent after moving in. The landlord went to their apartment to check up and saw an absolute mess.
There were holes in the walls. The kitchen sink was full of dirty dishes from the past three months. A whole toilet was just missing. There was old KFC food in the fridge. The carpet had been just a mess. The landlord changed the locks and then evicted the tenants after what he could only describe as a horror movie he had seen inside that flat. We're pretty sure the landlord avoided KFC for a while after this.
Plumber’s Putty in the Sink
When this landlady continuously asked her tenant to pay their rent properly, the tenant decided to clog the sinks and bathtub drain with Plumber's putty.
As a result, she had to hire professional contractors to take out a bunch of wet and moldy carpets and even replace the floorboards. As you can imagine, this cost a huge amount of money for the landlady, and she ended up taking this to court. Isn't putty supposed to be fun?
Budgies
This tenant is certainly an ornithophile. So much so that he started breeding budgies in the tiny house.
The landlord heard from the other neighbors that he had bragged about breeding 54 budgies. The landlord evicted him and moved into the budgie-free house himself about a year later.
Childhood Bedroom with a Side of Bed Bugs
This poor landlord, who thought renting his house to familiar people would work well, was proven wrong by his coworkers. The landlord had rented out his childhood home to his coworker's family, believing they would not cause any trouble for him.
Lo and behold, the landlord later realized that they had brought bed bugs into the house. Not only that but they had also damaged the walls, and sold the central air unit and the 100-year-old expensive hardwood trim. All the work, the landlord had put in to carefully construct his house had gone to waste because of these tenants. To say he was bugged by them would be an understatement!
Hotel Room Service
A landlord had rented out a room in their house to a tenant who seemed to be quite normal for the first six months. That was until she decided to turn her room into a hotel for her friends.
The landlord's parents immediately informed him, and he came to find out that the room was a mess. There was wax everywhere because of the candles they had burnt, the house reeked of smoke because the guest used the fireplace incorrectly, there were smudges on the bedsheet, and the place just had to be thoroughly cleaned. Safe to say the landlord was burnt out!
Propaganda
Sometimes people are nothing like what they seem, and this landlord learned that the hard way. He had rented his apartment to a yoga instructor who was all about positive vibes and peace. However, when the tenant asked if he could get a parking spot with the apartment, and the landlord let him know that he could but he would have to pay extra, things started going south.
The tenant spread propaganda about the landlord, telling everyone that he had been treated unjustly by the landlord. The instructor also had the other building tenants sign a petition against him and took him to court! However, you will be glad to know, just as the landlord was, that he had lost his case and had to evict immediately.
Problematic Lady
A landlord had rented out his newly painted and floor laminated flat to a lady with a dog. They had a deal where she would do house cleaning in exchange for half her rent. Needless to say, there was immediate trouble.
The dog damaged the newly laminated floor. She did not do proper house cleaning. She broke several of the dishwares of the landlord. Unlike the pooch, this lady was not a man's( or landlord's) best friend.
An Abundance of Wet Clothes
When this landlord visited their tenant's house just to check up on them, they heard a faint dripping sound coming from the basement. The landlord saw a huge mess when they went to check it out. Not only were their pipes leaking, but they had also used clothes to soak up the water.
This would have been fine only if there was not an entire foot-thick pile of those clothes. As it turns out, they had just kept adding clothes to soak up the leakage but never cleared them out or dried them. Now they just had a pile of soaking wet, moldy clothes in their basement. As you might expect, they got the earful of their lives and were let go from their tenancy.
Animal Hoarder
This tenant and her pets (over a dozen of them) certainly brought new meaning to the phrase "it's raining cats and dogs." One day, while the landlord was minding his own business when the lady's dogs escaped the house and came to bite him.
They failed, thankfully, but the landlord took the dogs back inside and saw how messy everything was. There were torn-down wallpapers and furniture ruined because of the cats and dogs. The eviction process was immediate because the landlord did not want to get bitten again.
'Tis the season
The tenant was fine until he decided to put up a real Christmas tree and set up actual candles around it. He, unfortunately, did not buy the sturdiest tree, so the tree knocked over the candles.
Of course, there was a blazing fire in a second because the fire was a perfect match for the dry hardwood floor to be able to ignite in flames. There was a ton of property damage. The cherry on top was the tenant claiming that the cost of the damages was the landlord's responsibility. The landlord did not hesitate a moment to evict him.
Walls As Garbage Receptacles
To the horror of this landlord, one of his tenants with whom he had rented his townhouse-style apartment decided to punch holes in the walls. While the tenant had not even made the bare minimum effort to cover up some of these holes, others had been tried to be covered with bad patch-ups.
But unfortunately, this was not even the worst part. Whoever made those holes had decided to use them as garbage receptacles! When the landlord discovered this, he had to tear down all the walls just to ensure he had cleared it all out. That's just trashy!
Banana Bananza
The landlord truly had to suffer at the hands of these tenants. The yard, which had been previously situated with winter-friendly plants, has been renovated because the tenant wanted to plant awful-looking banana trees.
Soon enough the landlord banana-split with the troublesome tenants.
Parking Ticket Reimbursement
This tenant did not hesitate to complain constantly about every little thing to his landlord. From the neighbor's dog barking a little and having too many homeless people in the area to smelling the restaurant across the street from the house. He complained about every tiny inconvenience.
He also demanded that he should get rent credits for them, and acted like the landlord was responsible for it all. Similarly, on a fine day, when he received a parking ticket from the meter maids while being parked on a public street, he asked the landlord for reimbursement.
Courthouse Conundrum
This one tenant had the constant habit of breaking and damaging the property of the house he was in and then taking the landlord to court to demand that they fix the damage.
This happened one too many times, and eventually, the tenant was evicted. However, the story does not end here. The now former tenant broke into the landlord's son's home to try and rob him, and thankfully, he did not succeed. He did get thrown in jail, though.
Hot Breakfast
Some people are just incredibly reckless and never clean up after themselves. This tenant was normal until one day; he woke up to make breakfast. Everyone tends to feel sleepy in the mornings. However, this person took it to the next level by falling asleep with a bacon frying pan.
There was, of course, smoke soon coming out of it before a full-blown fire had spread through the kitchen. That woke the tenant up but not soon enough as the damage was done. In this case it was NOT a good idea to bring home the bacon.
Petty Man
A landlord rented out their rooms to a tenant who wasn't very chatty... The landlord had repeatedly tried to speak to the tenant about his lease renewal, and the tenant kept on ignoring them until one day, the landlord fully confronted him.
The tenant finally revealed to them that they once ignored him, and he had kept that as a grudge ever since. The landlord was flabbergasted since they did so accidentally. Also, they still got no reply from the tenant until the very last moment when the landlord was going to put the room up for rent again after a month. Communication is key people!
The Cleanest Lady
While most tenants become nightmares due to their lack of cleanliness, this was quite the opposite. It was her constant cleaning that became a problem for the landlord. How? Well, the obsession with cleanliness started harmlessly. She was doing what she was best at and was not disturbing her neighbors… until she was.
Over time, this tenant started being hostile toward another tenant. This was mainly because they did not share the same passion for cleaning. She even held a meeting with the landlord, demanding that the other neighbors help her clean during fixed hours of the day. As she had started terrorizing the other tenant with her obsession, the landlord decided to cancel her tenancy.
Rooster
The landlord let a family of four move into one of his houses, and he was very happy because they seemed very 'normal' and had no animals. A few months later, one of the neighbors called the landlord and claimed they had heard a rooster. Yes, a rooster!
Initially suspicious, the landlord drove over to check his house, and he was shocked to see the mess it was in. There was garbage everywhere, strewn across the front yard. The door was unlocked, the carpet was now brown all of a sudden, there were holes in the walls and garbage also everywhere inside. Everything indicates that there were more than four living there.
Eviction Party
To this landlord's dismay, one of his tenants had thrown a housewarming party- not just a get-together, but an actual party. Loud music, blaring lights, people everywhere- this party had everything that you needed to annoy your neighbors.
So, after getting numerous noise complaints, the landlord decided to reach out to his tenant and tell him that while get-togethers are okay, parties are not. The tenant disregarded this and continued to throw parties. Even when the landlord gave him an eviction notice, the tenant hosted an "eviction party" where he and his friends broke the furniture and damaged the property.
House Key Seller
The tenants of this landlord thought that it would be the perfect idea to sell their house keys to someone else while moving out. The landlord was out of town when these tenants had to move, and he had given them instructions on how to hand over the keys.
Instead of following that, they sold the keys! When the landlord returned and realized that a freeloader had been living in their house with two large dogs, he was horrified. The "key" takeaway here is to NOT sell your landlords keys.
Sketchy Pregnant Lady
When this couple had rented their house to a pregnant lady and her husband, they knew something was wrong. Yet, out of the kindness of their heart, they gave them the tenancy.
When the landlords visited them 3 months later, the place was a complete mess. Broken furniture, punched-in walls, and windows- the place was in utter shambles. The landlords did not think twice before asking the police for help, and the tenants had to pay for the damages as well.
Stolen Lawnmower
Everything seemed in place when this landlady arrived at her newly evicted tenant's house. The landlady was expecting a huge mess, considering the entire battle she had to do to get them evicted.
One day, however, when she went to mow the lawn and could not find the lawnmower, she realized that that was what they had taken. In complete disbelief, she filed a report against them for stolen property and when the police went over to the tenant's new residence they saw it in shambles. Needless to say, two landlords won that day.
10 People in a 2 Person Apartment
Although leased under the names of two people, these tenants decided to bring their entire family of ten to live there! The landlord had no idea that this was happening, and when he, surprised by the noise complaints, checked the house, he was shocked.
The eight freeloaders living there had no idea either that they were not supposed to be there, and while they were understanding when asked to move out, the tenants put up an entire fight. Needless to say, the landlord was not keen on having them there and asked them to leave. Well, we all know that "three's a crowd!"
Lonely Pregnant Cat
When this landlord arrived the day after his tenants had left, he discovered that they had left their cat and its kittens behind!
He frantically called the tenants to take the cat, but they never picked up. Days went by, and the cat and her kittens remained with the landlord, with no signs of the owners. The cats were fortunately taken to a vet so that they could get the help they needed. Needless to say, the animal protection shelter was called, and the owners had to face their fair share of penalties.
Laundry Detergent Air Freshener
When this landlord rented a single mother and her 3three children out of pity, he did not realize that he would see the house destroyed a few months later. The mother was not the best at managing her children and never cleaned up after them.
Soon enough, the house started smelling quite unpleasant, and to drown it out, she poured laundry detergent down the heater and air conditioning. This completely ruined the central cooling system of the house, and the landlord made sure that she had to pay for what she had done.
Plushies Through the Roof
This irresponsible tenant sure gave her landlord a hard time buying plushies and toys instead of paying rent.
The landlord saw her constantly spending money on her collection of plushies and even saw her going out with her friends every day. However, when she was asked to pay her rent, all the excuses began. But the landlord did not excuse this and soon evicted her and her numerous plushies.
Wall Art and Flushed Toys
This landlord was completely heartbroken when he went to his evicted tenant's place and saw the mess the kids had created. He had spent months decorating the house with extreme care right before this family of four moved in.
And he expected everything to be fine, but in reality, the kids had drawn all over the walls. There were dirty handprints all over them too! Also, they completely ruined the house's plumbing by flushing their toys down the toilet and completely clogging it. Sure art is subjective but we're sure the "wall art" was objectively bad!
Trashed Family House
When this family had gone on a trip abroad for a few months, they rented the house out. However, when they returned, they saw that the entire place was a mess.
They had spray-painted the walls, broken the light fixtures, removed most of the switches, ripped doors out of their hinges, and even poured cement in the bathtub out of pure malice. There was no reason evident as to why they did that, but the landlords were determined to hold them accountable for what they had done. They filed a lawsuit against them for causing damage to their property and easily won the case.
House Turned Airbnb
This tenant thought it would be a great idea to turn the two-bedroom apartment that he was renting into an Airbnb.
He rented out the empty room for a much higher price than a tenant would have to pay for that room. He used most of the money he got to pay his landlord half the rent and pocketed what was left over. Needless to say, both the house occupants were kicked out when the landlord found out.
